For this calendar I got the permission to use tattoo photographs from a local tattoo shop in Savannah. Black Orchid Tattoo has six in-house artists, and because of that I was able to use two pieces from each artist for the months of the calendar. Along with those photos I added in a quote for each month that talks about tattoos. The quotes are either by someone talking about their own tattoos, or just tattoos in general.
When approaching this project, I wanted to showcase the work of a specific shop, In this case, Black Orchid Tattoo. The target audience for this calendar being those who go into tattoo shops. The calendar could be sold in the shop along with their other merchandise. Along with the hanging calendar I also created a small desktop version. For each month it has a more traditional style with the days of the week in a box like form. Though I eliminated the hairline boxes that surrounded each day. Instead, they are just loose numbers to illustrate the days.
I am a canvas of my experiences, my story is etched in lines and shading, and you can read it on my arms, my legs, my shoulders, and my stomach.
